We are graduated students in an university, China, and residing in US for many years already. We are currently forming a non-profit assoication or a non profit organization in oder to organize charity works and oversea alumni activities, and fund raising and donation activities. Please advise what kind of organaziation we should register because the federal and states laws are regulated. As a non-profit assoication or non profit organization, do we need to file in State and Federal taxes each year if only our members make donations to our own organation or association? What is the different between a non-profit assoication or a non profit organization? Thank you very much for your advice.
